Your Email Sucks.. But there is a Solution

5 Reasons Why Your Emails Aren’t Opened (And how to fix it)

Imagine this: You sent an email to your entire list to generate sales for an end-of-the-month push. Later you check your reports and see that your open rate were abysmal. What a blow! Not only did you fail to generate sales, a bunch of contacts unsubscribed from your list.

There are a few reasons why this may have happened, but here are the four most likely reasons along with advice for how you can fix it.

You send junk

Would you sending the stuff you send to your list to your friends and family? If not, think about a different way to touch base with your contacts and provide something of relevance. Not sure if you send junk? If your email message is “useful,” it’s resourceful and people want to save and archive it. If your message is “interesting” it’s funny, relevant and usually good for forwarding to their contacts. If your message is neither interesting or useful … it’s junk.

You use unoriginal, boring subject lines

People are tired of receiving the same emails with the same boring subject lines. They get it. Really, that’s why they don’t bother reading them. Be imaginative and creative and make people think when they read your subject line.

You are still emailing customers from 1998

Do you use the same email address for everything? Probably not. Chances are, you have a primary address for friends and family and a secondary address for commercial offers. Your contacts are the same way, and are probably using their secondary address with you.

Email permission tends to expire in about 10 months – so the more opportunities to confirm and re-confirm their interest (beyond an opt-out link), the  better. To fix this, consider using an alternative follow-up campaign (phone/direct mail) to have people update their contact information and re-opt-in to your marketing. Disciplined email marketing pays off when you have a truly engaged, interested and hungry list – and you can really cater to the people who matter.

You send just like the rest of ‘em

We all get our nighttime to morning email flood. I admit, sometimes I  just use my Delete key more liberally during those hours and my reply button  during the daytime. To fix this, try mixing up and allowing people to choose if they want your message in the morning, in the evening or mid-day.

You emailed to your entire list

Not every subscriber is interested in everything you have to offer. Slice and dice your email list into relevant, targeted groups and send to those groups of users where the message is attractive, engaging and relevant.

Not everyone’s open rates will always improve. It’s fact. However, the more you pay close attention to the result of your emails and more importantly your recipients’ expectations and satisfaction – the more your email open rates will rise with your fine-tuning.

I know a guy who wears men apparel in the amounts mentioned above. Well, he is still developing the underwear, but the other items are regular purchases.

I know, I know.. You are probably thinking, why in the world would someone pay $175.00 for undergarments? Well, here are a few:

1) Exclusiveness – How many people do you know who can say they wear expensive underwear? Aside from Mark, I don’t know any.

2) Comfort – Like 600 thread Egyptian Cotton, I am sure these $175 underwear must be truly comfortable. They better be or someone will be sued!

3) Lifestyle – Simple. Because he can afford to purchase underwear for $175 dollars, Jeans for $600 dollars and fitted Polo shirts for $500 dollars.

Let’s talk for a minute about Lifestyle.

A lot of people swear up and down that they will not change their lifestyle if their bank accounts suddenly increased.  I will tell you, they are liars!

We mock professional athletes when they receive huge contracts and they go out and buy six cars and three mansions, right?

But why do they do that? Aside from the obvious, they do it simply because they can. They belong to an exclusive group of people who can say they own an expensive home (The Manor – $150 million), a Bugatti Veyron Super Sports ($2,400,000) or a pair of expensive undergarments ($175 men’s underwear – awaiting production).

A drastic lifestyle change is something many seek but never find. Many of my friends, Mark included, started out with nothing but now they are flying on private jets, chauffeured in limousines, and live the lifestyles of the rich and famous – literally.

And so can you!

Are You Hungry for Success If you have not figured it out by now, I am a big fan of Les Brown. And lately, I have been really studying and learning from his audio and video products, many of which I have either purchased or found available on the Internet. But enough about my appreciation for his works, let’s get right into the message.

I was watching a Les Brown video the other day entitled, You Gotta Be Hungry! It’s another on his great stories that motivates you to take action in whatever it is that you want to achieve. However, a particular part of the video stood out in my mind. It went like this:

An ideal situation for a man or woman to die is to have family members praying with them as they crossover. But imagine, if you will, being on your deathbed and standing around your bed are the ghost of the ideas, the dreams, the abilities, the talents given to you by life. And you for whatever reason, you never acted on that idea; you never pursued those dreams; you never used those talents; we never saw your leadership; you never used your voice; you never wrote that book. And there they are standing around your bed looking at you with large angry eyes saying, we came to you, and only you could have given us light. And now we must die with you forever.

Are you utilizing all of your gifts, your abilities, your talents (Or) Are they just waiting to die beside you?

You see, you have to find the hunger in you, the willpower to get things done. You have to forget about your past failures, your doubts, and all the negative influences in your life. You have to be hungry!

I once had dreams of becoming an anchorman for some major news station. In my younger days, people used to call me “the black Chet Huntley.” I was not offended by this, in fact, I was honored. It was an honor because I was being compared to someone in the same business that I wanted to be a part of; however, I was not hungry enough to do all that was needed to fulfill that dream.

I hung out with people who told me, for various reason, that I couldn’t do it. Scolded by their doubts and my own lack of confidence in ME, I began thinking the same. I stopped learning. I stopped speaking. And before I knew it, I had lost my voice.

Later in life I found myself struggling to find the right words to say even in a casual conversation with others. Realizing this, I stopped talking period. I resulted to just being to myself and doing things that did not call for any adult-like conversations. That was me….

But you know..

The last few years of my life have been some of my best years. I began pursuing the dreams I had once dreamed. I began doing the things that I had always wanted to do. I now want to talk to people to spread my personality and my influence as far as communications and technology will take it.

My hunger for this comes from being dissatisfied with my past accomplishments.. or lack of accomplishments. My hunger comes from the sickness of my mother. My hunger comes from the distant relationships I have with my daughter and some members of my family. My hunger comes from the love of my wife. My hunger comes from the belief, faith and understanding that God has a higher purpose for me. My hunger comes from wanting to help others realize their greatest potential.

I am hungry.. How about you?

Momentum - Driving Your Business to Success

What is Mass x Velocity (p = mv)?

If you guessed that p is momentum, you are absolutely right!

But do you really know what momentum means or how it applies to your Internet marketing business?

Let’s discuss that right now..

But before we do that, let’s define the word – momentum

Merriam-Websters defines momentum as:

1. a property of a moving body that the body has by virtue of its mass and motion and that is equal to the product of the body’s mass and velocity; broadly: a property of a moving body that determines the length of time required to bring it to rest when under the action of a constant force or moment

2. strength or force gained by motion or by a series of events

In simple terms, it is the result you gain from applying consistent effort.

Momentum is really important in your business because it is what drives you to reaching your goals.

When you started out in Internet marketing your up-line leaders probably told you go out and market your business by any means necessary (video marketing, article marketing, cold calling strangers, hotel meetings, contacting friends and family, etc., etc.).

You, being so eager to get going, did just that. You talked to any and everyone who would listen to you. You camped out at Walmart (I once did), hung out at the malls, and spammed all your friends.

You were hungry for those first few weeks of becoming the owner of your own company. You made more phone calls and you posted more ads on Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites. You were Hungry!

After applying these tactics, you then sat back and waited for all that money to come rolling in.. Right?

But what happened? Did your efforts create the desired results? Did you become an instant millionaire?

Probably not…

In fact, you were probably just the opposite – broke and disgusted.

But lets examine why you didn’t make all that money your upline promised you. why didn’t you immediate see results?

Simple.. It’s because you did not quite build up the momentum necessary to succeed.

Yes, you put forth a lot of effort; however, a lot of effort over a short period of time is just not enough.

Quickly, let’s revisit the definition of momentum: a property of a moving body that determines the length of time required to bring it to rest when under the action of a constant force

I want you to focus on a couple of keywords in this definition: “length of time” and “constant force

It takes time and consistent effort in order to build momentum. You can’t have one without the other.

What’s sad is that most people quit just before reaching that momentum stage. And guess what happens to all of their leads?

They default to their previous upline. I know this because I have been on both sides of this equation.

So, you have to keep your pedal to the metal until you reach your desired result.

Do not stop until you reach momentum. Because when you get there, no one will be able to bring you back down.

Are you going to be selfish? Will you be greedy?

Are you going to look back at where you came from when you get rich?

I just asked you that just in case in the near future you will be rich:)

Let’s say you are struggling right now and although you are putting forth a lot of effort to get back on track.

You are not asking for anyone’s help and you are just doing everything you can on your own.

You started from scratch and you don’t have anyone to help you but yourself.

You don’t have anyone to tell you that what you’re doing is right or wrong.

You are your president, vice-president, secretary and employee of the month for your company.. every single month.

Alright, so, after all that hard work and a lot of sleepless nights, you finally received awesome results.

You have earned lots of money, you have become famous in your particular business, and now you can have everything that you had always desired.

You have new friends because of your newfound wealth, and lots of people want to talk to you and work with you.

But..

Here is what I am really curious about..

If there are people who will need your help and who will seek your advice on how to become rich and how to get to the top, will you help them?

Or..

Will you just simply say “NO”? Just because you got there on your own without anyone’s help?

I really think that keeping your feet on the ground will make you a really wonderful person.

Help those people who are not as smart as you and don’t have the confidence that you have to make it to the top.

I am so inspired to write this because I realize that I am living with a wonderful person.

My husband often tells me that if he had the power and money to really help other people, he will help all those people without asking anything from them in return.

I wish all rich people think (or will think) like my husband.

Well of course!  If I have the power, the money and ability to help people I will surely help them with all my heart and soul.

Because.. We should all be able to be wealthy and live a healthy life.
